Criteria for Exchange of Damaged Banknotes

The Bank replaces damaged banknotes with new banknotes following the criteria below, provided that the two sides of the banknote are maintained, and the damaged banknotes are brought to the Bank's head office or branches by the possessor or his/her agent. Burnt banknotes are also exchangeable for new ones following the same criteria, provided that remaining ashes prove to be of banknotes.

A damaged banknote with two-thirds or more of the original remaining is exchanged at full face value.

  • Images of oblong rectangles with two-thirds or more of the surface being remained.

A damaged banknote with two-fifths or more, but less than two-thirds,of the original remaining is exchanged at half face value.

  • Images of oblong rectangles with two-fifths or more, but less than two-thirds, of the surface being remained.

A damaged banknote with less than two-fifths of the original remaining has no value.

  • Images of oblong rectangles with less than two-fifths of the surface being remained.
