Previous method New method
The market value of the total position was estimated using information on listed enterprises.
For details, see "Release of the Market-Value Estimate of the Direct Investment Position" released on May 25, 2007, available on the Bank's web site.
The market values of major listed enterprises are estimated based on their market capitalization using stock market prices. The market values of other enterprises are estimated using enterprises' own funds at book value.1

Note:

  1. Using own funds at book value is one of the methods outlined in BPM6 to estimate the market value of enterprises for which no stock market prices are available.

Also, certain figures from year-end 2011 through year-end 2013 in the historical time series data consistent with the current statistics ("historical data rearranged based on the BPM6") for the International Investment Position of Japan have been retroactively revised.

The retroactively revised figures are available in the Historical Data Rearranged Based on the BPM6 on the Bank's web site.
