How can I distinguish counterfeit banknotes? What should I do if I think I have a counterfeit banknote?

Bank of Japan notes (banknotes) are incorporated with many security features to prevent counterfeiting.  Details of the security features are available at Security Features of Bank of Japan Notes.

Should you discover a suspicious banknote that could be a counterfeit, please bring it immediately to your nearest police station, the Bank's Head Office in Tokyo, or one of the Bank's branches across Japan.
