At the time of its establishment in 1882, the Bank had only 55 employees and operated in a leased building by the Eitai Bridge (currently Nihonbashi-Hakozakicho), a short distance from the current location (Nihonbashi-Hongokucho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo).
