Revision of the Economic Statistics Monthly

March 29, 1999
Bank of Japan
Research and Statistics Department

From the next release of the Economic Statistics Monthly (for April 1999), the Research and Statistics Department will revise its title and contents. The new title will be the Financial and Economic Statistics Monthly, in view of the fact that its contents are mainly composed of financial statistics.

The highlights of the revision are as follows,

1) Several series of financial statistics will be added to the Financial and Economic Statistics Monthly, while real economic statistics that may be seldom used will be deleted (see Appendix).

2) In principle, the period of the yearly data contained in the Financial and Economic Statistics Monthly will be lengthened from 2 years to 5 years.

3) In line with the termination of the Economic Statistics Annual*, the financial data that had been included only in the Economic Statistics Annual will be presented in Special Tables of the Financial and Economic Statistics Monthly, soon after the latest series are released. In addition, Summary Tables for the latest 12 months' Special Tables will be published in every March issue. Thus, consecutive time series data can be obtained from the March issues.

  • The last issue of the Economic Statistics Annual was published in March 1998.

4) The Financial and Economic Statistics Monthly will be issued nearly one week earlier than the Economic Statistics Monthly. It will be issued before the end of each month except for the May, November, and possibly for the February and September issues.
