Treatment of Funds-Supplying Operations against Pooled Collateral in the Bank's Statistics

In line with the introduction of funds-supplying operations against pooled collateral from June 26, 2006 (see for details "Introduction of Funds-Supplying Operations against Pooled Collateral " released on April 11, 2006), the Bank of Japan will start to treat the statistics compiled by the Bank for such operations as follows.

1. "Sources of Changes in Current Account Balances at the Bank of Japan and Market Operations"

A. Daily

The figures on funds-supplying operations against pooled collateral will be released in the new items "Funds-supplying operations against pooled collateral (at Head Office)" and "Funds-supplying operations against pooled collateral (at All offices)" under "BOJ Loans and Market Operations."

B. Monthly (Preliminary Figures

The figures will be released in "Market operations."

C. Monthly (Final Figures

The figures will be released in the new items "Funds-supplying operations against pooled collateral (at Head Office)" and "Funds-supplying operations against pooled collateral (at All offices)" both under "BOJ Loans and Market Operations" and "Amount outstanding."

2. "Bank of Japan Operations in the Money Markets" and "Bank of Japan Operations"

The figures for the new operations will be released in these statistics.

3. "Monetary Base and the Bank of Japan's Transactions"

The figures will be released in the new item "Funds-supplying operations against pooled collateral."

4. "Bank of Japan Accounts (Every Ten Days)"

The amount outstanding of funds-supplying operations against pooled collateral will be included in "Loans (excluding those to the Deposit Insurance Corporation)," and will be indicated in a new footnote.

5. "Bank of Japan Accounts"

The amount outstanding of funds-supplying operations against pooled collateral will be included in "Loans," and will be listed under the new sub-item "Loans by Funds-Supplying Operations against Pooled Collateral."

6. "Loans and Discounts by the Bank of Japan"

The amount outstanding of funds-supplying operations against pooled collateral will not be included in these statistics.

7. "Collateral Accepted by the Bank of Japan"

The definition of "collateral accepted by the Bank of Japan" will be changed from "collateral to secure debt incurred as a result of use of the intraday overdraft facility and the complementary lending facility, purchase of bills, and treasury agent contracts/revenue agent contracts" to "collateral to secure debt incurred as a result of use of the intraday overdraft facility, the complementary lending facility, funds-supplying operations against pooled collateral as well as purchases of bills made before June 26, 2006, and treasury agent contracts/revenue agent contracts."

8. "Monetary Survey"

The amount outstanding of funds-supplying operations against pooled collateral will be included in the item "Claims on Deposit Money Banks" of "Accounts of Central Bank" and in the item "Credits from Central Bank" of "Accounts of Deposit Money Banks," but will not be included in the sub-item "Lendings" of "Claims on Deposit Money Banks."

9. "Flow of Funds Accounts"

The amount outstanding of funds-supplying operations against pooled collateral will be included in the sub-item "Bank of Japan loans" of "Loans."
