Financial Markets Department
Bank of Japan
The Bank of Japan (BOJ) will make changes to the release format for "BIS International Locational Banking Statistics and International Consolidated Banking Statistics in Japan," beginning with the release of the data for end-December 2025 (scheduled for the middle of March 2026). Main changes are as follows.
1. Overview
(1) Addition of items for "BIS International Locational Banking Statistics in Japan"
New items of domestic banks' claims and liabilities vis-à-vis related offices, which were added to the BOJ Time-Series Data Search in March 2024, will be added to the new release format for "BIS International Locational Banking Statistics in Japan" as well.
With regard to the addition to the BOJ Time-Series Data Search, please refer to a notice "Addition of Items of 'BIS International Locational Banking Statistics in Japan' to the BOJ Time-Series Data Search" dated March 18, 2024.
(2) Discontinuance of items for "BIS International Locational Banking Statistics in Japan"
With regard to memorandum items of "local positions in foreign currencies", figures for "All currencies total" will no longer be displayed on the new release format. This change is aimed at clarifying that "All currencies total" excludes "In yen" in the row of the memorandum items.
In the BOJ Time-Series Data Search, these data will continue to be available, but a note to describe the definition above will be added.
(3) Changes in the expressions for some items
Some expressions in the release format will be modified. As this change is solely aimed at making each definition clearer, the definitions themselves and the continuity of the data will remain unchanged.
The expressions in the BOJ Time-Series Data Search will also be modified.
2. New release format
Please refer to the new release format [ZIP 185KB] for more details.
