As announced in the "Final Draft on the Revision of the Money Stock Statistics-Opinions on the June 2007 Revision Proposal and BOJ Responses," the Bank of Japan will publish the Monetary Stock Statistics on a new basis from the May 2008 preliminary figures to be released on Monday, June 9, 2008. Prior to the release of these figures, the Bank of Japan has prepared the new series retroactive data covering the past few years (from April 2003 to March 2008).
Click below for the new release format and the new series retroactive data:
The new statistics consist of four indices, namely, M1, M2, M3, and L. As the definitions of these new indices differ from those of former series' (i.e., "M1", "M2+CDs", "M3+CDs", and "Broadly-defined Liquidity"), there is discontinuity between the two series. The comparison of the average amounts outstanding (as of March 2008) between the two series and the main factors for the difference between the two are as follows (See also Charts 1 and 2).
The "Guide to Japan's Money Stock Statistics" that explains the compilation method and notes on usage of the statistics will be revised after the release of the May 2008 figures.
